My father-in-law's suddenly having some fairly serious health issues--like 1 in a 10-million rare and clinical trial-type experimental treatment kind of stuff. I suddenly did some math, and the numbers seem unreal. My parents are soon-to-be 78 and 77; my in laws are REALLY soon-to-be 78 and 75. Until I really did the actual subtraction, they were all "70-something," which is still prime of life in 2012. But, since I can go from cough-to-cancer in 12.5 seconds, this stuff is throwing my world off kilter. So, as I think about the lives they've all lived, all they've accomplished, contributed, and the lives they've touched, the take-away is this . . . you can't spend a ton of time reviewing the past or getting anxious about the future; you gotta stop and really, REALLY live in the moment and enjoy every second of every day.

True. You know I LOVE math, but not THIS kind of math. The same realities are hitting Bob and I as our 4 parents are still alive and in the mid-70's to mid-80's range.
